Uzone.id – Donald Trump is back in the seat of power in the United States after winning the general election yesterday. Just Returned, Trump immediately appointed Elon Musk as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, abbreviated as DOGE.
Throughout the campaign, Elon Musk has shown active support for Trump. I am actively using X as a venue to aggressively promote Trump by targeting young voters.
Musk even displayed pro-Trumo content on trending topics and used his podcast to disseminate the Trump campaign. Besides moral support, Musk also provided financial support by donating more than $100 million to the political action committee (PAC).
Tesla’s founder even took the time to act as an advisor during the Trump campaign. Result? Donald Trump succeeded in the election, and Elon Musk got a seat as head of DOGE.
However, Trump’s victory impacted Musk’s social media X. Several X users closed their accounts the day after the election. Also, 115,000 U.S.-based web visitors deactivated their X accounts just before Trump announced his election victory.
One of the biggest reasons why many X users left the platform after Trump won is because X users are worried about interest bias, especially after Elon Musk became a member of Trump’s cabinet. Not a few also assessed that now X is increasingly promoting right-wing politics.
Then, where did user X go? After leaving X, not a few switched to using Bluesky. Bluesky itself is considered an alternative application to X, which Elon Musk owns.
Bluesky is similar to Twitter, which was still newly introduced to the public. In addition, users feel more free from hate speech when using Bluesky to write opinions.
As a result, micro-startup Bluesky recorded more than 2.5 million new users in just a week. Last month, Bluesky’s total users reached 16 million, with most new users coming from America, Canada, and the United Kingdom.
Currently, Bluesky itself is still in the development stage. This application is popular because it has innovative features, including maximizing a cleaner surfing experience for users without the distraction of ads.
In addition to Bluesky, X users first turned to Threads. This was driven by controversial decisions made by Elon Musk for X. Some of these included the paid verification feature that led to a motherboard of fake accounts and the removal of relaxed moderation rules that sparked concerns about hate speech and misinformation.
This triggered many X users to move applications even though there was no complete transfer, one of which was to Meta’s Threads. Threads record user broadcasting of up to 275 million per month by the end of 2024.
This surge was also triggered by the advantages offered by Threads, such as an easy integration system with Instagram, having a display similar to Twitter so that users feel familiar, and being developed with a more privacy-friendly approach.
However, although Bluesky and Threads offer new experiences and have become alternatives for X users who choose to leave the application, the number of users of these two applications still needs to be higher than that of X.
This may be because Threads, under Meta, still has few features and limited customization. Meanwhile, Bluesky’s weaknesses are limited access (only for invitations), a small user base, and a lack of features such as multimedia threads.
So, Threads vs. Bluesky: Which one is better to replace X? The answer depends on the needs of each user. Users can consider their needs and comfort when surfing social media before switching applications.
If you want to surf with a familiar experience and easy access to a large community, Threads is an option. However, you can choose Bluesky if you want to prioritize data privacy and a more open and transparent social network.
